Diosas De La Comida
A Poem About the Importance of Food to Hispanic Culture
By Brianna HernandezPublished 7 years ago • 1 min read

I’m channeling my inner latinx, and committing to my ancestral roots
the only problem is every type of food I’m making is going straight to my glutes.
Manteca, & flour addicted abuelas, cooking tortillas that are so perfect in diameter you would have thought they used a compass
but watch this, their bare hands knead the masa into submission and their crafty hands create beautiful flying disks, handing it to you warm & soft
add some I can’t believe it’s not butter & watch it go straight to your hips.
chile con carne, queso in every meal, flipping the tortillas on the comal without burning yourself; an acquired skill.
Yet, cooking runs deep in our veins as us & the spices dance with no shame,
Hispanic women, we are the flame.
