Dinosaurs Still Exist

Have you seen this one lately?

Habits become ruts I never look over.

I ring a friend and ‘hang up’ the phone. 📞

‘Look up’ an answer typing into a keyboard

Not by asking the ever present Tone.

I prefer face to face 🧍‍♂️ 🧍

Over Teams, Slack, or Zoom.

Virtual is fine

But I like working the room.

I’ll drop you a line

That requires pen, stamp, and card

I know how to address and mail it,

For me it’s not hard.

My appliances have cords

I turn lights on with the switch,

Sweep the floor with a broom

Not a rumbling robo-frisbee with a twitch.

In meetings I’ll muse

‘I remember the day….’

Then likely tell you

Why we still do it my way.

I bribe results with pizza

Require compulsory ‘fun’

Like working nights and weekends

With too few employees to get everything done.

I’m much too busy

To learn anyone’s name

So I use ‘Sport’, ‘Dude’ and ‘Sweetheart’

Stopping just short of ‘Dame’.

Each year at review time

I assure: “you’re well-placed”

Dangle promised promotions

Though you know I’m Two-Faced.

I like things as they are

I’m not thinking of change

All your notions of ‘New’?

Nope- that’s way out of my range.

You talk of AI, cyber, benefits, and Tesla,

WFH, balance, career path, and social.

BAH! I got here myself

With hard work by the bushel.

You’re soft! All of you!

Not like me, that’s for sure.

You can’t do business like me

I’m a proud Dinosaur.

I don’t need the electronics-

Not that expensive useless stuff

There’s nothing wrong with a notebook

-made of PAPER- that’s enough!

Just put in your time, Kid

Work your years, weeks, and days

Say goodby to your life, Kid

Don’t hold your breath for that raise.

Since I did it, you’ll do it.

You can slog through the same stuff

And act like you like it

Say that you want it, never cry out ‘Enough!’

Come on, Sweetheart, just smile more!

Work as hard as you can.

If it’s too hard just marry.

It’s not like you’re a man!

Now get me some coffee

Hey! Where are you going lass?

Watch your head as you’re leaving

‘Cause that ceiling is glass.

Judey, if this isn't a "hot take" on the dinosaur challenge then I don't know what is!!! I love the cultural reference, it's so clever and such a unique spin here!! Great work!!

  • Oh dear… what a conclusion! ‘ Hey! Where are you going lass? Watch your head as you’re leaving ‘Cause that ceiling is glass.’ A pity some dinosaurs still lurk.
