Dinner Party Blues

At least I showed up

I won’t tell you I’m lonesome,

Drop a sack of sour grapes,

On the table by the dip.

I just want a connection,

Embarrassed to beg for one,

I just want to be better.

I see I’m pathetic, too,

It’s not a lack of insight,

But a painful giving up.

Kind words, even contrived platitudes,

By those who can still feel their meaning,

Just someone give me a break.

From this nasty, black feeling.
