"Didn't Know It Then“

you seemed harmless enough at first glance

turns out you played a real smooth roll to get in my pants

the way you chased me down to tell me

I was beautiful made me feel like

your intentions were purely genuine more than casual.

I didn't know it then but

I would soon be an unsuspecting victim of unfortunate circumstance

newly away at school

clearly out of my element

distracted by your smile surrounded by an unfamiliar environment

no, I didn't have a chance.

I was blinded by my ignorance

misguided by my innocence

and betrayed by the fragrance

I wore the distinctive scent of false self-confidence.

all too trusting

I was lost in the illusion

of what I wanted to see

I couldn't discern your lusting

I had no idea you headed out from me.

unaware that you are a predator

and I was your would-be prey

I didn't know it then but I'd be down

for the kill in less than 30 days.

yes it's true

I should have made sure we were exclusive

before I let it get intimate

should have known you were committed

before I let you get this gift.

my fault I fell for you

I jumped headfirst into a pool of passion

began drowning in a sea of bad choices

disregarded all logic and became ruled by emotion.

I didn't know it then

but it wasn't you I fell for

I don't know who I fell for

truth be told

I fell for a fabricated charade

I didn't know it then but all too soon

your deceitful masquerade would disingenuously fade

no, it didn't take long

for you to flip the script

because once you hit it you were instantly acting different

you made a swift switch from sweet and romantic to

callous and distant

I didn't know it then

but I guess the joke was on me.
