Dibiki-giizis

a letter to the moon

By Jennisea RedfieldPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

My dear Celestial sister,

Sitting high above our home of Aki,

Thank you.

Thank you, my giizis,

For swaying with the sea.

For giving our Ma’iingan

A beautiful face to sing to.

Sweet, dear sister Moon.

It was under your eye that I had my son,

It was your beacon of light that I cradled my new infant to my breast.

For years, my dear sister,

I was enraptured and in awe of your waxing and waning beauty.

When you swell like a mother growing her little one,

Or recede like a slow smile,

I look up at you, loving your gaze.

Your silver light,

Your protective lull.

Tell me, my dear sister,

What is it like?

To look onto our Mother Earth?

And smile as she turns?

Sincerely,

Your sister from the Earth,

longing for the kingdom hidden in your beauty.
