Detritus

Done for the Day

By Donna MariePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Buzz Lightyear is laying face down on the floor.

I think he's too tired to play anymore.

A dozen tiny teddy bears have crawled into a tray.

They look a little worse for wear for being in the fray.

All the markers and colored pencils are in the basket on the floor.

They've done their duty for the day drawing dinosaurs.

The pillows are all squished and crumpled in corners of the chairs.

Are those drool marks I see? Or little baby tears?

The silence in once crowded rooms is ringing in my ears.

The laughing, crying, and giggling sounds have started off the year.

Now it's late and everyone has headed home to bed.

Tomorrow is another day to work and play; we said.
