A Tribute to All Babies Born Sleeping

By H C BanksPublished about a month ago 1 min read

She didn’t die.

But she did not wake.

Born sleeping, she did not cry.

I wracked my brain, continuously asking, “why?!”

Why, oh why, do I feel this ache?

She didn’t die.

I long to see her open her eye,

And to find out this was all fake.

Born sleeping, she did not cry.

I look for guidance in the sky:

What is making my heart break?

She didn’t die.

I catch a tear falling from my eye,

And a tremor in my body, like an earthquake.

Born sleeping, she did not cry.

I can’t believe this isn’t all a lie;

A nightmare that will end with daybreak.

She didn’t die.

Born sleeping, she did not cry.
