Delilah's Defense

And the cost of arrogance

By Jennifer L OsbornePublished about a year ago 1 min read

Samson--be gone.

Beauty--you're a needy beast

Disappear into the ether

You never-ending tease.

Get so far away from me,

A phone will lose its reach

Wreak havoc on Delilah

For accepting higher fees.

Her man loved too many, she's all on her own.

Captive to his beauty, love finds no home.

Spurned by jealousy, the end drawing near

A modern-day hero

Brought down by silver shears.

My jealousy too, as I sit in her chair,

My fingers trace the edge.

Do I dare? All those women, how can I compare?

Good enough to love, but not marry--Samson didn't care. You were

Betrayed worse than what Judas was paid! He insisted on leaving but begged you to stay! Demands from every direction-- changed by the day!

All those women, how can I compare?

You gave me nothing! But that soldier over there...

I count his extra coins, and whisper in your ear: "It's too late, so sorry, my dear."

Shorn-short, and hideous.

You gave me nothing...so

I take a lock of your hair.
