Deception

The Death of a Song

By Dan R FowlerPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

Deception

It’s often said that actions speak louder than words,

I must agree that spoken words are swords.

The sharpest word can cut like a knife,

Dividing asunder blood and spirit, a soul cold as ice.

The slightest glance in a deceptive way,

Delivers with it a story of love’s decay.

No longer, if ever, do the eyes tell the truth,

But seek to spin a story started in their youth.

Reinforcing the tale o’re these many years

From nuptual’s celebrations to their old age tears.

One would deserve better than some clandestine meeting,

When revealed it presented a life-long plan, a soul’s deceiving.

The daily comments echoed ore the years,

Alluding to truth, that when discussed, had brought fear.

Had the lie never been prepared and served up as truth,

There might have been a different life, a little less uncouth.

But to perpetuate the illusion, a deception enduring decades long,

Is to deprieve the someone being used of their life’s song.

There’s no way to try to apologize for this undeserved wrong,

For the feelings of betrayal, this injustice is far to strong.

There’s no forgetting no matter the abundance of forgiving,

As the echoes of apologizes resound like story telling.

It’s too late to start over, too far it has gone,

When all is said and done, the two should’ve said so long.

Advancing into the golden years that lie ahead,

Hasn’t been the realization that many have said.

But this soul riveted with holes within and without,

As on-lookers fail to see the truth and remain in doubt.

One’s soul cries out, to thine own self be true, it shouts.

Sometimes it’s better to remain alone than to become two.
