December's Daughter

Winter but if it were controlled by seasonal depression instead of the other way around.

The world turned silent

Before it went cold,

And a child’s teardrop

Turned to snow.

And as she cried,

The flakes did fall

Until they covered

The earth and all.

When her first breath

Graced her lips,

It coated the trees

From trunks to tips.

When she smiled,

The sun shined dim

And so the townsfolk

Sang her hymns —

Peaceful tunes

To keep her calm,

Raise her spirits

And ease her qualms.

The older she grew,

Less and less nice,

The cold in her soul

Turned the waters to ice.

The fields freeze over

And the skies grow dark

As December’s Daughter

Loses her spark.
