Deceit in Desire

in the charged silence between your gaze and mine

The night is electric

and filled with deceit,

a tension so thick, sliced open

would unveil heavy-laced wanting.

You slide your hand

into the small of her back.

You whisper in her ear

and I feel the closeness of your breath.

Stirring, awakening.

Glancing, you catch my eye.

A crowd full of faces

in a dimly lit room.

You are looking at me.

I am looking at you.

Pearl grey satin

cascades the length of my body,

clinging to my frame,

a subtle taste of juniper

lingers on my lips.

Your gaze penetrating.

Savouring.

Fleeting.

Alive and yearning

I falter in the inviting of another.

His eyes are hungry

with intent,

leering at the curvature before him,

breath heavy

with whiskey and cigarettes.

My siren song, I lure him to dance

with unspoken promises

I don't intend to keep.

In the jungle of bodies

writhing to rhythmic melody,

I slip away and find my reprieve.

I stare across the city landscape,

lights shimmering

beneath the open summer sky.

I breathe deep the solitude

of my hidden oasis,

allowing the last of it to fill my lungs.

The door behind slides and clicks,

footsteps drawing nearer,

and I feel it,

your fingertips graze my waist.

You step to me,

hands meandering to my hips,

body pressing into mine.

The world stops.

Sound softens.

I turn to fluid at your touch.

The night is electric

and full of deceit.

She is looking for you.

You are here with me.

    Oh...divine attraction...allure in the words. Well done...congrats.

It's a poignant reminder of how allure often dances with betrayal, echoing themes I've seen in classic romantic works but with your fresh, intimate twist. As a fellow writer, I admire how you've captured that raw anticipation in so few words. Well done!

I love the way the imagery moves from the crowded room to that intimate ending.
