Debts To The Devil

Momentary Thrill

Sparking chills like embers

Casting sunshine in the dark

Kisses in the raindrops

Lightning flashes in my heart

Goosebumps after midnight

A burning cigarette

Desire out of nothing

Subtle smiles of regret

A goodbye to remember

An imprint to retrace

Remnants of forever

Memories of a secret place

Lonely held a passion

That belonged to someone else

A solitary assassin

With a promise not to tell

An eternity to remember

A lifetime to forget

A touch so soft and tender

Fates final pirouette

A fanning of the fire

A breath of pure release

Building myself a pyre

With a connection in the breeze

Again, something to think about with your work.

This has quite a few undertones. I cannot quite see where it all begins and ends. There's immensity! How did you manage to capture all that here? When you finished that last line did you feel a final catharsis or is the energy of it all in continuous purge? Where is that "devil" most evident in your lines? Is it easier to blame an external devil instead of an internal one? Why does society demonize certain passions, and since we are units of society what part do we play? Apologies if there are too many questions. They don't necessarily have to be answered by you, anyone can answer if they so choose. This poem just caught me in a place where all of this came up in reading it. I always enjoy when a poem evokes something visceral in the reader. You've done that here Kelli, so Pom-pom-POM-MING you! Keep up the good work!
