Dear Somebody
a There Is No Guilt In Distance poem

Dear Somebody, if ever you are wandering through an empty field and realize that you do not know who you are, plant your knees in the grass and imagine it has forever been just you in this field.
Perhaps you can identify toxic habits you fostered for the sole purpose of pleasing others or that tormenting anxieties no longer fester in the absence of judgment. These aspects will become misty and out of reach like clouds.
Once the layers of everything else drift away, reach inside and discover what waits at your core. There will be a part of your interiority remaining entirely whole. That, Dear Somebody, is who you are.
Maybe you understand that you are not alone in the field, and you are distracted by the natural movements of birds flittering, jack rabbits hopping, people passing by. Then, imagine there is a tree whose shade you rest in, whose boundary no one can cross.
It does not have to be a field. It could be the ocean, the empty lounge at your favorite bar, a distant peak buried in the sky. It is more than an imaginary respite, Dear Somebody; It is the sanctuary of your being. You can find it within yourself again if ever you feel lost.
