Dear Moon,
How are you tonight?
Thank you for being our night light!
Moon, oh Moon, what do you see
When you gaze down upon the earth and me?
Do you see the precious ones resting in the night
The ones who are sleepless with never-ending plights
What about those who take what is not theirs– whatever that thing may be–
And get away in the dark and light scot-free?
Dear Moon, your pale dimples and wrinkles in your beautiful dented orb,
Where are they from?
Did you smile for thousands of years that such joy you did absorb–
Or did you age and sigh
When the worst in the night terrorize others passing by?
Oh Moon, what do you do
When your brother Sun takes the stage?
Do you, while reading your beloved book, turn the page
Or do you go to bed in a sulk and rage?
Do you often feel like your brother Sun’s shadow?
Or feel that you are your own with your calm confidence never low?
So many questions I have for you
So many, oh many,
We must sit and talk as two
Let us meet tomorrow night
To hear your wonderful tale
From beginning to end
Spare no details hidden behind a veil
Much love from below
As the blink of eyes begin to slow
Much thanks from down here
As the sounds of the night i begin to hear
Yours truly,
The creature of the day
Known to be unruly,
Ava
