Dear Moon, Are You Listening?
A midnight confession to the silent witness hanging over every heart.

Dear Moon, old lantern nailed into the sky,
I write at last and wait for your reply.
You’ve watched empires crumble into dust and stone,
Yet still you find me here, awake, alone.
~~
You’ve sailed above caravans crossing the sand,
A silver compass cupped in the traveler’s hand.
You’ve kissed wooden masts on the midnight sea,
And still make tides out of the dark in me.
~~
Do you remember the nights I was small?
Tracing your face on my bedroom wall?
I swore you winked through the windowpane.
A quiet god with a child’s last name.
~~
You’ve heard every wish that I never said,
The arguments replaying in my head,
The soft “I’m fine” that was never true,
The prayers I aimed at the stars—and you.
~~
Tell me, pale witness above my street,
Do all lost secrets gather at your feet?
Do lovers’ promises, broken in two,
Turn into craters shining back through you?
~~
If I confess that I’m tired and scared,
Of futures blurred and pasts that can’t be repaired,
Will you keep watch while I learn to be
A little more gentle with this fragile me?
~~
So take this letter, this rhyming release,
Fold it in light and deliver me peace.
If you’ve been waiting for my voice all along,
Answer in ripples of silver and song.
~~
Until then, keep glowing over my night.
Old faithful witness, my borrowed light.

Such a beautiful piece. It captures that quiet, comforting connection we all have with the moon.
I see the connection to your fiction piece that I just fell in love with. Beautiful.
