Dear Amaru,

You were never scared of war because you were raised by a Queen who always made sure you were prepared for war.

Dear Amaru,

You once told us that earth is a black hell for a young Black male and that’s why we tell these gritty black tales.

Dear Amaru,

Thank you for telling us it’s ok to shed tears for the peers that we’ve lost throughout the years.

Dear Amaru,

You taught us that there is no community if we don’t stand together in unity.

Dear Amaru,

You were a courageous soldier who brought the heat when the world turned colder.

Dear Amaru,

You made it to Heaven. Was it a ghetto safe space for a beautiful Black face?

Dear Amaru,

Today we teach your lessons in classrooms. You’re still a legend from the womb to the tomb.

Dear Amaru,

You once told us that life is pain, but from that pain there is alot we have to gain.

Dear Amaru,

Sometimes you were wild, but it came with the territory of being a ghetto child.

Dear Amaru,

Wearing your heart on your sleeve made us believe that it’s okay to do regardless of how we are received.

Dear Amaru,

Though many claim to hate you they also can’t help but imitate you.

Dear Amaru,

Today our brothers and sisters are making shots because back in the day you were taking shots.

Dear Amaru,

We are thankful for your words of wisdom. Your unheard of wisdom.

Dear Amaru,

Nearly three decades ago you took your last breath, but your legacy is still remarkable even in death.

Dear Amaru,

We are eternally grateful for the truth that you spoke to the young Black youth.

Dear Amaru,

Through the written lines of your gifted rhymes we always remember you through the end of time.
