Dear Aliens

A letter to those who are way out there

By Michael LewisPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Dear Aliens,

Greetings and salutations,

Wherever, who ever, you are

Watching the people of all nations

On our planet orbiting our star.

We have sent out what we think and know,

Transmitted in all directions.

Images and sound of humans on show,

Via physical and energy communication.

Humans are the dominant race,

Although I use that loosely.

Overcoming difficulties we face,

Yet doing things that come off silly.

At best, we suspect you visit Earth,

Upon the rare occasion.

Looking down with concern and mirth,

At the global human situation.

What you think we can only guess,

As you observe and stand back.

For we are in somewhat of a mess,

Perhaps you are taken aback.

Understandable considering,

The human race's history.

Some of it empowering,

The rest detestable vainglory.

Our dominance and hold on Earth,

It'll put the brains' trust to the test.

End in our race's death or rebirth?

The result only time will attest.

For we are alone on this ball,

Fear enabling many a stupid action.

That we survive after it all,

With a modicum of contrition.

We do our worst and best,

As we go about our day.

Awake, with zeal and zest,

We enter the life's fray.

So, for however long you wait,

May you develop understanding.

Regarding each and every trait,

That makes a human being.

So to you, holder of this letter,

Reading in the skies above.

Someday may you see us get better

Enjoy less war, more love.

Sincerely,

A human being
