Dead Men's Chest

Stede Bonnet, eat yer heart out!

By Meredith HarmonPublished 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read
Tresure's worth nothing against the ghosts of the past or future.

Avast! Sea dogs and mateys all, pray heed my soulful tale,

Batten down the hatches, I won't yowl o'er howling gale,

Chanties will not give full ear, my sorrows to surpass,

Doubloons I need a-plenty, to drown it in my glass.

Every night I hear the cries from Davey Jones's locker,

Fathom it? That I cannot, it would take every copper,

Grog meself to 'blivion to banish all the ghosts

Hearties, that I sent down there from seas and ships and coasts.

Interesting life I've lived, by blood and skull and bone

Jacks I've seen a-plenty flapping in the wind alone.

Keelhaul me if you dare, for the orders that I've taken

Loot may not be worth it for the phantoms I've awakened.

Marooning, mutiny, and murder, mayhem by the score,

No Prey, No Pay, they say, 'tis true, you pay in guts and gore.

Old salts in this life? You mad? We get out when we're able,

Pillagin's means to an end - it puts grub on the table.

Queer's the sight of scaffold over edge of hempen halter,

Rum will put fear in your limbs and make your courage falter.

Scallywags will walk the plank, shark bait in the water,

Three sheets to the wind, I am, but such deep things do matter.

Upper deck's gettin' Mother Nature's swabbin' while she sings,

Vessel's foundering, can you reach the shore without some wings?

Weigh anchor, boys, weigh anchor, this ship won't take much more,

X may mark the spot, but not when knocking on Death's door.

Yard arm's swinging wildly, boys, shake hands and cast away,

Zenith's come, may you be safe, remember me, I pray.

This is great, I loved how my mental voice took on a grizzled tone!
