Dead Leaves
by Sam Harty

A poem I wrote from a fantastic list of October prompt ideas offered by the wonderful writer, Chloe Rose Violet aka "RoseFearless". More to come...
🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂
Fall is done.
Escaped in a haze
of candy corn
and mushy pumpkins.
Leftover treats
taken away from
children
3 days after
Halloween.
Turkey roasted,
marshmallows
fireplace toasted.
And when all of
Christmas
came and went
stockings unhung
money spent,
January coldness
still a chill
resides
heavy coats
on brass wall hooks
hung neatly inside.
February's
Mardi Gras
Valentines delivered
and hearts express
loves possible
reprieve.
The kids are
alright as they
shuffle to school
through dead leaves.
