Dawn at Dusk

Poetry entry

By Hayley Bilski Published 5 years ago 1 min read

As a tiny speck of dust, I entered into the first fading sunset as a pure and lilac sky

The bird's soprano a sign of angelic joy

Welcoming me into this unfair world

And as the lilacs faded into lemons

Squeezed and splashed over my growing dust, by those who missed the setting sun, the sourness appeared and turned to midnight blue, then black

Painted across that dusky moment

But somewhere amongst the darkest of nights, where tainted hurts and judgements lay

Somewhere far removed from the outer tales of what how I meant to look

Twinkled a million and one of the brightest stars I ever saw

Shining out every last bit of external darkness

Only to reveal what was there at that very first dusk

If only I had looked up once or twice

If only I had listened to the night time  crickets, begging me to remember how brightly I shine

Only now do I know to listen for them

At every dusk, as the lilac fades to yellow, which fades to black

All along, the million and one diamonds have been sprawled across the night sky like a warm and giant hug
