Darling, Darling

A poem about regret and longing

By Keiran BazePublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Darling, Darling

what a shame

that there’s the devil

and he knows my name.

He’s here now

and it won’t be long

before he drags me back

where I belong.

I can't stay here darling

I can't stay with you

Don't talk about love

It won't change with it true

I've been here too long

and he knows it's time.

He'll tell you sweetheart,

you can't have what is mine

Our clocks run out

so kiss me fast.

Goddamn your eyes.

You know, love never lasts

Flesh of the heavens

And eyes of the sea

Too holy an alter

For a sinner like me

Drank of your flesh

And ate of your blood

Prayed to your thighs

Lord send me a flood

But it was never for me

To have something so dear

I’m begging now please

I can’t be what you fear

So, close them eyes,

don't you watch what's to be.

The change is coming

and you'll hate what you see.

Lips of sin

and tongue of a snake,

I’ll be but a nightmare

When you wake.
