Darkness Rises

An ode to Matilda Dixon

By Joe PattersonPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

When darkness falls over the town of Port Ferry a chill is coming.

The sting in the wind is humming. Matilda’s coming.

She comes for the last tooth as if it’s her last rites.

If I peek when she comes then it’ll be my last night.

What she took before in kindness she now takes to avenge.

A look upon her scarred countenance will warrant revenge.

Only one weapon can protect you from her vengeful sight

Flee from the dark of the shadows and stick to the light.

Make a compatriot from wherever the light is.

For Matilda Dixon when the light falls, darkness rises.
