Darkness, I Curse You

You make my eyes give up to recharge

Darkness, I Curse You

Darkness, I curse you for the weight you lay

upon my shoulders, heavy as stone.

You swallow light and steal my way,

leaving me wandering, lost and alone.

You silence birdsong, dim the stars above,

wrap fear around me like a shroud.

You hide the path I ache to love,

this frozen place where hope is bowed.

I curse the grip that tears at peace,

the breath that thins the living air.

You turn my dreams to fragile lease,

and leave them breaking everywhere.

You think you hold me in your hand,

that I am yours to twist and take.

I gather fire where I stand,

my voice unyielding, wide awake.

There is something burning deep inside,

a spark that will not be undone.

You press and pull, I still abide,

for you cannot unmake the sun.

Light lives where truth has always been,

within the heart that knows its worth.

I will watch you fade, grow thin,

and leave no shadow on this earth.
