I see it all so clearly now
The dust has settled, clearing the view
The young walk with a naive bravado
Until they reach the day, all they can say is wow
There is nothing like tomorrow
Until it comes under a shadow
There is nothing else to look forward to
But an end that brings such sorrow
For the brave may conquer the day in front of their eyes
But they have no foresight into what's next
They are so filled with the idea of much time to come
Forgetting that everything in this life dies
There'll be a dark sunrise on many coming days
And they'll have to learn the truth of life
Some things are inevitable
And there's a debt that everyone pays
To live through the dark sunrise shall measure their true might
Their response will be measured
And not all of them will succeed
The only survivors of the dark sunrise will be those with a lot of fight
To escape the dark and feel the sun again, possible it is to do
They must survive the coming struggle
And fight through the pain of loss
For those facing the dark sunrise, surviving says a lot about you

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.

Ask not for whom the dark sun rises. It rises for you.
