The greatest misconception

in the spiritual world

is that happiness

and carefree joy is what leads you

to find peace and freedom

It is the darkest nights

The loneliest days

The treacherous mountains

you climb on your own

It is the ugliness you face

staring dead in the mirror

still recognizing you're beautiful

It is the shadows that trail behind

that you bring to light

The ones you befriend

and comfort again

because from the beginning to the end

they loved you

That's why they were always by your side

It’s the rivers of tears

that you cry

It’s the murderous screams

before the sighs

It’s the mental states

that you must abandon

to tame the mind

It is the undeniable pain

It's the suffering

It’s the silence

It’s the sacrifice

That leads you to understand

the way to the light

is through the cave of the soul

Transcending the darkest night

Enlightenment is only attained

when you reach the other side
