Dare To Swim?

Take the time to ponder

Walk with me awhile, join me

Talk with me as we wander,

Take the time before to decide

Stop, think and heavily ponder.

***

You are, of course, welcome

To join with me on my journey,

But weigh up the pro and cons

And decide if we are worthy.

***

Know this up front, you listening

There’s nothing casual when I love,

I love hard and I love forever

Make sure you’re okay with the above.

***

When I love, you’ll burn in my fire

Singed by my passion, set alight,

Blissfully floating on cloud nine

Sleeping in my dreams each night.

***

When I laugh, you’ll stop, listen

Bathing in my music, willingly,

Your smile will light up your face

So my heart beats wittingly.

***

When I cry, you’ll know my pain

As you will dance in my storm,

Torrents of tears embraced

As the dam dries and reforms.

***

When we kiss, you’ll feel my love

You’ll drown in my Soul, happily,

We’ll hesitate to come up for air

The fire ignited and burning rapidly.

***

Think carefully and be totally sure

As my depths are littered with debris,

From the ruins of those who struggled

Navigating my currents to any degree.

***

The waters surrounding my spirit

Are a graveyard of those passed,

Their crime, the depth of their love

Being too shallow to ever last.

***

Again, I forewarn, so take heed

Think hard, do not act on a whim,

Do not set foot in my ocean

Unless you are ready to swim.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
