Void of light the black seeps in,
It brings me to my knees.
This can’t be it, this can’t be me,
I whisper tenderly.
But the inky darkness settles in,
It tries to hold its place.
Until a sliver, a beam comes through,
To caress my waiting face.
To live, to feel, to be just me
Dare I take the chance,
To laugh, to sing, to shed a tear,
To invite the light to dance
Softly first, a shift, a glow,
White ripples into green,
Pushing through the blackened void
Yes! I dare to dream.
And right before my very eyes,
A prism comes to life.
A kaleidoscope of emotion,
Awakened by the light.
I feel the waves wash over me,
I know they shift and sway,
But tomorrow brings a golden hope.
That darkness won’t wash away.
