Dancing Girl of Mohenjo-daro.

A Poetic Tribute to a Timeless Bronze Figure

By Quincy.VPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

In ancient lands of dust and sand

Where Indus River once did span

A people lived, so long ago

Whose art and culture we still know

From Mohenjo-daro, a city lost

Came a figure, at great cost

A girl in bronze, so finely made

Her graceful form forever stayed

She stands, with arms akimbo spread

A dancer frozen, in bronze bed

Her hips, they sway, in fluid motion

A captured moment of pure emotion

The artisans who made her, long since gone

Yet through their work, their spirit lives on

For in this girl, we see their art

A masterpiece, that won't depart

So let us marvel at her grace

And in her beauty, find our place

For though she's silent, she still speaks

A dancing girl, forever unique.

This is a beautiful and evocative poem that transports the reader to an ancient land and introduces them to a fascinating artifact of its culture. The imagery is vivid and descriptive, bringing to life the city of Mohenjo-daro and the graceful figure of the dancing girl. The use of enjambment adds to the fluidity and movement of the poem, mirroring the motion of the dancer. The poem effectively captures the enduring power of art to connect us to the past and to evoke strong emotions in the present. The idea that the artisans who made the figure are long gone, but their spirit lives on through their work, is a poignant and thought-provoking message. The final lines of the poem, which encourage us to marvel at the dancing girl's grace and find our own place in her beauty, are particularly moving. Overall, this is a well-crafted and captivating poem that beautifully captures the essence of art, culture, and history. It is a pleasure to read and leaves a lasting impression on the reader. Well done!
