Dancing Away

Mismatched music

By Tina D'AngeloPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

The music I heard was nothing like yours

How did I get so lost?

Swaying to a long-forgotten song, sweet refrains in my mind

Gentle blues, lost jazz melodies, seriously sentimental

Fantastical music echoes in my soul

Leaning into you, never quite close enough

Never touching

Ashamed of my desire

Fearful of my truth

Rushing forward

Falling backward

in uncertain terms of confusion and pain

Your music was dissonance, smashing cymbals, crashing drums

No kind words. No warm embrace. Nothing. Empty. Cold.

No understanding. No caring.

Tired of running into a hard wall

The music in my soul mismatched with the possibility of you

So, I turned, following the breadcrumbs back home as I danced away
