Daffodils stand along the roadside,

Spring is near at last

Daffodils stand along the roadside,

yellow like a silent shout,

their stems rigid,

their faces turned to a sky

too pale to answer.

Spring doesn’t creep,

it breaks open, sudden and sharp,

a flare of color

against the earth’s dull skin.

The flowers don’t sway or soften,

they stare, bold and unyielding,

golden flames that burn

without a flicker.

No waiting, no withering,

just a bright, defiant bloom

against the lingering traces of winter.

To me the first signs of Spring. Daffodils are the first flowers I remember planting that actually do grow and bloom. Good job.
