There’s some photos on the fridge,
reminders of people and pets, places and things.
Happy reminders of our personal lives, past and present.
When we surround ourselves with beauty and love, what have we done?
What do those cut flowers on the table do for our disposition, our mood?
So too a simple walk, down a bucolic street or a path through the woods.
What conversely happens when we deem to watch the evening news, drawing from us some energy, draining us of the day’s last smile.
We should all put more beauty in our lives, music and laughter.
Not to ignore the problems but to help protect ourselves from the harm they can inflict, the damage to ourselves that comes from such an onslaught of bad news in the world.
We can create a buffer, an invisible wall against the daily darkness of worries and problems, shoring up our defenses and enabling us to continue.
Giving us strength for another day.
Put some cut flowers on the table.
