An Ekphrastic Sonnet

Like me, these beasts serve and obey your will

Unlike me, they cannot feel love for you

Your adversaries, they will hunt and kill

A beast feels no need to the facts review

You have only to point and speak the word

To unleash coiled muscle and rending teeth

So swift is their motion that eyes are blurred

In a blink, once above, you’re now beneath

How did you make them your dark instruments?

They could eat you, but from your hand, they feed

Did you mix rare, eldritch ingredients

To craft a potion fit to make them heed

Your every, cold and cynical command?

Explanations I’ll not live to demand

Ekphrastic

That was beastly fun! I love the use of a sonnet with fantasy art, such a gray mix of high and low”low” brow

I love how the imagery builds from loyalty to menace, ending on such a chilling note.
