Crossroads

A Poem

By Diana AndersonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I sold my soul at the crossroads.

A penny for a black market deal.

Wasn't until I saw my soul

strung up before me that I realized

the penny was actually hidden treasure --

a diamond in the middle of a swamp.

The crossroads taught me

a valuable lesson that day.

My mama once told me

the devil was in me. I suppose

I had it coming.

So I sold my soul at the crossroads

and hoped to high Heaven it worked.

If it weren't for the devil

in me, maybe I would have seen

the worth of my soul.

The minerals that made me

who I was would have been spared

from the black market mongrels.
