Cronus glares at his newborn child

Remembering the devastating prophecy:

One of your offspring will devour you.

Now his wife has given birth again.

Unwilling to risk this fate, he eats,

Swallows his own child whole.

Zeus seeks to free his trapped sibling,

Enraged at his father’s gluttonous crimes.

Unafraid and unabashed, he attacks Cronus.

Sliced open, the stomach reveals the newborn gods.

Cronus’s dismembered body hurtles towards the earth,

Red blood splattering on the ocean waves.

Out of his corpse comes a goddess,

Newly born Aphrodite, goddess of love.

Unknowingly, Cronus creates a weakness for Zeus;

Stirring up his heart lustful love drives him from his home.
