Cradled by Shadows

On the Outskirts

You’re on the outskirts

Of every group of people

Your back hugging the wall

Like it’s your best chance

Of safety

I strike a match and

Dare you to step

Into the flame’s light

You don’t know I used to

Crave the feeling of

Shadows cradling me too

But it doesn’t matter now

Like a siren singing

I am slowly drawing you

Out of where you hide

In plain sight

I long for your hands

But ask for your words

If I can’t have everything

I’ll settle for something

If I can’t have you

I’ll settle for your attention

I’m looking through

Every group of people

Fixing my eyes on you

As if you’re my

Best chance at

Happiness

Because I think

Maybe you are
