Covid Hit Me

A poem about having Covid-19 after I got home from holiday

We came home from being abroad,

a great holiday we had.

Two days later

Covid-19 hit me.

Where it came from

I do not know.

The virus swam

into my head

leaving an ache

flitting about

corrupting

my brainwaves.

Later, Covid leaped

into my throat

making me gag.

A test revealed

two lines.

I was shocked.

My first time with Covid.

It came for me at last.

From my throat

it swam into my chest

made me feel like

death, as I tried

to live

striving slowly along

as a constriction

deprived of a breath.

Coughing started,

earaches swaddled me

and body aches

hacked my senses.

How much longer

will it stay?

I want this virus

to leave and

go away.

Two days in,

Covid illness

hits my husband

second time around.

His test is positive but

he's feeling fine.

Five days later

he's still positive

feeling throaty

and rotten

but not

as bad

or as sad

as his first time.

It's been seven days since

Covid grabbed me

and still, my tests

say I'm

positive.

My hacking cough

reeled my brain.

It felt like

brain fog

ran riot

with my senses.

The virus made

me hazy.

Can't stand

only sitting or laying down

teaches this virus

to behave.

The dizziness sways

leaving me

dazzled and frayed.

It staggers along

down to my chest

as aching dimness

creeps in

distracting and befuddled

I feel overwhelmed.

I've been vaccinated

three times

so why is Covid

twirling around,

twisting my veins.

The diabetes

within me

runs havoc

as seething nausea,

a sickness strikes,

stopping me from

eating as

my birthday arrived

only yesterday.

Still, I go on

as I've no intention

of letting Covid

run me

to the ground.

So, bear with me

whilst this Covid

blast runs its course.

I'm a bit slower

at present,

but no matter,

I'm determined

not to let it

ruin my

busy,

crazy days.

I wrote this poem whilst feeling ill with Covid-19. I was still positive and it was my seventh day. I am slowly getting better now. I had a rough time of it the last few days but I think that's because I am diabetic or at least that's what my doctor tells me. Now after 12 days I have a terrible chesty cough and have been left feeling tired all the time. Being vaccinated helped me to get through it. What would have happened if I hadn't been vaccinated?
