You could never / Just from a glance / Tell the hardships / battle scars / her trauma;
She used to let it affect her / Day to day / every night;
They called her dramatic;
Now she has stuffed it away / Dealt with some of it / Processed pieces of it;
Allowed her smile to outshine / the looming darkness / the crippling fear;
She still jumps at the drop of a dime / Always looking over her shoulder;
But she smiles brighter / Laughs harder / All in an attempt / Just to hide it away /
She makes jokes about her suffering / her shortcomings / all in an attempt to cover / to beat them to the punch
Vulnerability wounded her before; Vulnerability still frightens her
