A surreal poem

Intersect me.

Split me open

In the center

Of the old forest

Where witches

Went off to die

And wizards

Howled through

Moonless nights,

Losing every bit

Of themselves

To the cold wind

Of inevitable

Change.

.

Intercept me

Pick me off

Before I get

A chance to

Find my legs.

Wrap your fingers

Around my warmth

And pluck me from

The apple tree before

The frost catches hold.

.

Stop me first

Because I will be

Stopped.

It is only a matter

Of time and patience

Before I am hogtied

To a goalpost,

Strung up and out

Like a winter roast.

A pig in every right.

The glutton of dreams.

About the Creator

Silver Daux

Shadowed souls, cursed magic, poetry that tangles itself in your soul and yanks out the ugly darkness from within. Maybe there's something broken in me, but it's in you too.

Your imagery is wild in the best way, forests, witches, frost, and fate woven into a single pulse of dread and desire.

Your poem is lovely and swirls with mystery! I think we are riding the same wave of thought and feeling this week. It’s comforting that this dismantling of self that comes with dark and dreary times is not an isolated process after all. 🧡

So good, it has the feel of a coming-of-age story in vibrant poetic form. 👏👏👏💖

This is a curious poem, Silver, that last stanza especially. It's sort of whimsical, speaking of magic to start but then sounding like a frat party gone wrong at the end! Yep, definitely got my thinking cogs whirring...
