Cornucopia of Nature Trivia

Teaching the kid about nature

By Seema PatelPublished 19 days ago 1 min read
Checking a clover patch @Seema

My kid is six plus,

but her knowledge

of the natural world

is far beyond her age.

There is a reason, of course.

I teach consciously

in the big classroom of nature,

where learning aids are free

and the mind is receptive.

Here she eats foraged kumquats

while listening about clover,

admiring its blossoms,

and perhaps watching honeybees

sipping and buzzing.

I explain the role of this plant,

often wrongly tagged as weeds

which is in fact pollinator foods.

I gave on example,

but all the plants in the backdrop

are introduced one by one,

and before you know it,

the child has a cornucopia

of nature trivia.
