Cordelia

Cordelia with the raven hair

Wearing halos and bleeding ichor

Sweet as poison, pure as pythons

Didn't I tell you about my split skin?

I cared like Ventolin and blood transfusions

I lived in that shadow

And I withered in that shadow

You pressed the sunshine to my flesh

Until it burned

Beautiful brave Cordelia, drove me to insanity

Your compliments were crafted like arrow heads

Movie star, warrior, painting

Aren't you just woven from perfection?

I cared like burials and running

With scabs on my hands and rope burns on my neck

You get everything you want without

Even having to reach for it

And I try to view you as human

Instead of a sickening siren song

Oh Cordelia, you didn't have to

Push me down just to reach the top

I still have the bruises to show

Oh Cordelia, I wasted so much hate on you

I took my goodbyes with a side of jealousy

And maybe I helped build your podium after all

Wasted hate. This has given me pause.

Oh, we all recognize her, Poppy, and you've dramatized her well.A fantastic poem

  • Brilliantly done! I especially like the last verse "Oh Cordelia, I wasted so much hate on you I took my goodbyes with a side of jealousy And maybe I helped build your podium after all". Love the song too.
