Consumed by Color
How can we grow to love one another?
People that look like me live sheepishly in austerity.
People that look like me are robbed of their freedoms.
Captured in a collection of hues -
Ranging between yellows, greens, reds and blues.
The world is reflected through a rainbow.
In the grey and black that paint our concrete.
And in the colors that divide us by country.
Colors even have the power to unite us in solidarity.
Our conscious minds need to flourish in clarity.
Not see one another as the enemy.
For all that divides us, only further insights us
Into unsettling acts of reaction and rebellion.
When will the world be ready then?
Consuming the visual aids that tell us what is beautiful, real and acceptable.
Impressing your heart with the wrong idea of love,
Only to live like an elegantly colored caged bird -
A bird who once had a home to protect and defend first.
Why is it so, that the way you look influences your ability to win a fight?
Why do others have to question your access to basic human rights?
Why can't we see the beauty that's right in front of our eyes?
As scent, touch and sound bring us sensations of memory and emotion.
What we see evokes it all and more.
Trauma and pain that course through the veins on the man on TV,
The hopes and dreams of that married couple on your telephone screen.
I want you to know that the colors that outline me, live inside of you too.
May we fall in loves with ourselves so we can love each other better.
A colorful and passionate world can really only happen by working together.
