Connected At The Core
Poem about love, connection, and new life

deep below the surface
long before our foundation broke
a subtle crack along the surface
a heartbeat started when we spoke
a stirring inside a simple seed
our biggest dreams soon to be freed
tangled and mingled like two ropes
our roots begin their knots of hope
let's hold on tight to our dreams
before too long, this light will beam
blinding days and nights alike
the two of us knit nice and tight
sweet child of ours, be free from pain
break free and grow your own roots again
find a love and hold them dear
and grow together with love, not fear
...
I sketched the above drawing without a poem in mind, and originally the picture was drawn vertically, but as I kept looking at it, I realized how I did not like the idea that one tree (which I felt presented me and my love) was above the other. I felt better about us being equals.
I started writing this poem over the last few days and was inspired by this sketch so I just let it evolve into what it is. The intention was not to speak of birth or a child, but that is what was born out of it in the end, and I find that so beautiful. The unexpected can come from all sorts of depths.
Growth, love, life, being one with your soulmate, and creating something new that will in turn do the same one day when he or she grows. Life is beautiful like that.
