Confession of the Heart

P2

By James GreenPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

John had always been a private person, preferring to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself. But there was one secret that he had been carrying with him for a long time, a secret that seemed to grow heavier with each passing day. It was a secret that he knew he could never share with anyone, not even his closest loved ones.

Like a stone in my shoe, it chafes and it aches

This secret I carry, it never forsakes

I try to ignore it, I try to forget

But it's always with me, I can't seem to shed it yet

But as the days went by, John began to feel as though the weight of his secret was crushing him. He knew that he could not go on living this way forever, always hiding the truth from the world. So he made the difficult decision to confess his secret to someone, anyone, before it was too late.

It's a burden I bear, a weight on my soul

I can't go on living, with this secret I'm told

I must find a way, to set myself free

And finally rid myself, of this misery

John chose a stranger to confide in, a man he had never met before. He told the man everything, pouring out his heart and soul as he spoke. The stranger listened intently, his eyes wide with shock and surprise as John revealed the truth.

I lay out my secrets, before this man's eyes

I bare my soul to him, without any guise

He listens with care, and offers his ear

And in this moment, I feel free of fear

When John was finished speaking, the stranger looked at him gravely and said, "You must go to the authorities. You must tell them the truth, no matter how difficult it may be." John knew that the stranger was right, and so he gathered his courage and went to the authorities, confessing everything he had done.

I take a deep breath, and step through the door

I know that this moment, will change my life forevermore

I lay out the truth, for all to see

And I pray that they'll understand, and set me free

But the reaction from the authorities was not what John had expected. They did not seem shocked or surprised by his confession. In fact, they seemed almost pleased. "We've been watching you for a long time, John," one of the officials said. "We always knew that you were hiding something. And now, finally, you have come forward and admitted it."

I thought I was clever, I thought I was sly

But it seems they knew all along, I don't know how or why

They're pleased with my confession, they nod and they smile

But I can't shake the feeling, that something's not right

I see them around me, these secrets they hold

They weigh on their shoulders, their stories untold

But somehow we carry on, we go through the day

Hiding our secrets, in our own private way

John came to understand that secrets were a part of life, something that everyone had to deal with at some point. And while they could be difficult to bear at times, they also had the power to bring people together, forging bonds that might not have existed otherwise. In the end, John was grateful for the secret that had once seemed like a curse, for it had taught him the true value of trust and honesty.

So we all carry on, with our secrets in tow

Hoping that one day, they'll all be revealed and known

But until that day comes, we'll keep them hidden and dear

For they are a part of us, and help bring us near
