Confession

A Poem on Sexuality

By Sean BassPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I was a mere boy when I walked out

barefoot

into that starlit night

shame in each wavering breath

and I thought

No

It will not be me who shares this shame with my

mother

No

It will not be me who shares this shame with my

father

No

It will not be me who shares this shame with my

Grandmother

Grandfather

Brother

Sister

Nephew

Niece

Cousins

Lovers

Friends

No

It will not be me who shares this shame with the world

I will remain

quiet and secret and hidden

but even my silence brings me shame

and the truth

burdens me

burning inside me

a rainbow licked with flame

I am a mere boy

barefoot

beneath the starlight

and it is only with the stars

that I share my quiet confession
