Competition

And A punch In The Gut

The space in between

the left and the right

The places unseen

kept away from the light

The ones we've denied

brushed up under the rug

Keeping it occupied

like a vein, with a drug

A needle and groove

a dangerous bug

One that's hard to remove

got a hold on you, snug

Bad temper combined

with a competitor's juice

Makes a sane man go blind

with the urge to out-do

A grudge in one hand

with something to prove

the devil's right-hand man

there, to dare you to move

That space just gets smaller

the more that you fight

Flaunting like a baller

top dog in a cockfight

The more you're denied

the harder you push

The ultimate high

a junkie's last rush

How far will you go

to get what you want

What cards will you show

what else will you flaunt

Till what you have

will be good enough

The critics will laugh

cause you're not that tough

Challenge after challenge

failed to land on top

You claim to be savage

but you're ready to stop

Because what you gave

did not hit the mark

You filled up a page

poured out your heart

Still, no matter the topic

may as well be in invisible ink

Hold your wishes in your pocket

nobody cares what you think

slam poetry

Whoaaa, this was so powerful! 🔥🔥🔥

  • What I have told my congregations for decades: "That which I so desperately & absolutely believe to be true for you, I find almost impossible to believe/accept for myself." I know this beyond a shadow of a doubt, my friend, there are a whole lot of us who care very keenly about what you think.
