Colours

Colours are much like a reflection of life's offers, an invitation of emotions and a summary of what you feel.

As I sit under the summer skies

Clear, natural and still

Clouds float high above

- with a bounce so soft, so gentle

It echoes the start of a new day.

Much like a blank canvas

- white and clean

Which opens an invitation for colours to fly

A chapter ready to be written

A story yet to be told.

As I close my eyes

Colours slowly began to enter

- one by one

For their presence was added to a canvas so plain.

It is where my imagination started to paint memories of way back-when

- a timeless recollection of moments once passed

For an opportunity to feel

Such progression within me

For the ultimate joy of colour

Provides life with new meaning

An appreciation for the past,

A gratitude for the present

And an excitement for the unknown.

Green, as the grass which moves

- to the pace of the wind

It flows so effortlessly

Carefree and at ease

Sits almost like a heat of envy or of jealousy

Much as I, debated between the desire for a companion

- healthy, real and true

And the surrender to settle for less

Though such thoughts to give up, has now subsided

Coupled by a career fuelled by numbers and targets

The urge for higher pay, higher perks, higher position

Has all but fell into a calm

- much needed

As nature speaks

For a self-love to build within, incomparable by the likes of company

And a tame to such desires, with the reminder to see the bigger picture

- prompting an internal battle between stability and passion

Blue, as the night which falls dark

Enters depression

It is where toxic relationships question the validity of my own thoughts,

Workplace politics wreak havoc on the common term to grow ‘thick skin’

A heart which struggles to breathe

- breaks the body powerless, for a patience for air to return once again

However, as the clouds re-emerge in full daylight

The morning offers the hope to rise

A serenity untroubled by such fear, an open dialogue of what is my self-worth?

A stability to persevere such criticism of work as open feedback, less of a personal attack

And a health which needs to be tended for, for the heart is easy to break

Red, as the roses that grow,

Unveil a blood-like nature of anger

A mental frustration

As I over-compromise in every relationship

With a silent desire to be heard and understood, with affection and compassion

Similar to overworking, I stay beyond hours only to amount to nothing

As I was told “doing many things” doesn’t simply amount to a “good job”

However, much like a lustrous glow of love

Which forms over time

I was able to grow love from all different places

The sincere support of my family and friends

My baby boy, Suicune – a ball of fluff who is my loyal companion and partner in crime

My passion for poetry, where writing sits as a calm to medicate anxieties

And most importantly, to re-discover

Love within me

To leave, whether relationship or work

When mutual respect is no longer served

For me to step away, with pride and dignity

That simply,

My efforts are enough

That

I… am enough.

As I look above,

To complete my canvas

I see the sun sit overwhelmingly bright

Much so, may be one of life’s greatest gifts

Fulfilling, content and complete

As the things that bring me the most joy

Whether it would be time spent with family and friends, genuine and true

The desire to excel in one’s career, with an ambition to grow

A greeting from my companion, Suicune – where his barks send me to smile hours on end

Or simply - writing poetry filled with conviction, intent and emotions

At most – serves as a driver for my creative expression, a dream which sets me free from reality

Shines bright as yellow,

A glow… which sits within.

For that, I appreciate what life has to offer –

A scenery of emotions,

Of feelings

And of…

Colour.
