Colour Expression

Colour as an expression for growth in self expression

By Isabelle DredgePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

“Throw like a girl” was hilarious to me

Because girls were pinks and that could not be me.

Because I had to be blue. It’s embarrassing to not.

Pinks are weak and fragile but blues are not

I was told boys were stronger and to never wear skirts

Cover yourself up or appeal to “their” thirst

It’s scary to be pink

That’s what We were taught

Internal misogyny what instilled and it’s hard to be fought

Relearning beliefs is hard. But self oppression is worse

So one day I grew up.

And put myself first.

Pink and blue are colours.

That’s it and that’s all

Pink and blue aren’t people. Just boxes within which we’re forces to fall

Learning to express myself through colour

My favourites I now rotate through

Not defined by girly girl or tomboy.

Or boxed by pink or blue.

Colour is expression I now can understand

Woman hood is a privilege.

Finding my true self is the upper hand
