Colors
A poem for my future children, and the future of all children everywhere.

Isn’t it kind of crazy how you spent nine months in the dark of a belly?
Preparing yourself to come into a world unsteady
A world that isn’t yet ready to experience your light
Because quite frankly it’s bright and you’re one of a kind
Cliché? I know but it’s very true,
Another like you will never exist
So I insist on you sharing your light
And coloring outside the lines
The colors you have inside no one else can define
Because every shade is simply divine
We each have the right to write our own story
Let the rays of the sun cleanse you each morning
Rise like the Phoenix and take off soaring
The world is yours to explore
You’ll find certain colors reflect and others absorb
And there is still so many more
Colors that you have yet to see,
You’re still becoming the person you’re yearning to be
Look up to the sky for all the answers you seek
Realize that the past and the future don’t have to repeat
What awaits is a new painting for you to complete
A blank white sheet is not a story to read
Your version of beautiful is the one we need
It can be tough to feel at home in empty places
To be in the presence of such unfamiliar faces
I know some days can be extra hard
And you save your tears for when it gets dark,
I promise you brighter days will show up
So whenever you need young one you can pull up
Because even if we are living in a world divided,
Under this roof we are a family United
You will always know a place where your light is reignited
And the love that is shared is never one sided
In this home you can share all your fears
Shed your colorful tears
Be yourself and make it crystal clear
This is your life and you get to steer
In one way or another we’re all pretty queer
And here’s something to remember in times of low spirits
Or times when you’re down in the trenches
And feeling defensive
Most people look at the world through their own set of lenses
And some never journey beyond their own set of fences
Life is going to teach you certain lessons with rejection
But it will lead you to a more aligned connection
Really a sacred blessing
And what I know to be Tried & Tested
Is that sound has the power to heal,
So talk to yourself to understand what you feel
Find what exactly in your heart is already written
And speak those words with nothing less than precision
For the colors of the wind are always there to listen
And as you hear your own vibrations
You will gain profound clarification
On how to build from a more solid foundation
For your master piece in creation
Take your time as you color in a life you will love
You’re originality is second to none
With each stroke that is done we’ll have become one
And your journey to forever has only just begun
This is my favorite thing about color, there’s always more to discover
