Colors

A rainbow world

By Virginia WhiddonPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

An inquisitive mind once asked me about my favorite color.

"I really love green," I said.

"But,” I continued...

I love Cabernet colored carnations and crimson wine.

I love seeing the ruby neck stripes of hungry Hummingbirds hovering.

I also love orange sunsets and yellow birds.

I long for the solid darkness of a vast sea at midnight while I search for the tiny specks of gold from far away ships.

I eat up every shade-from olive to chartreuse-that Mother Nature feeds me. I dream in the color of Spanish moss, and I am made of the gradient green-yellow-brown of Florida palm fronds.

Sometimes I miss the kaleidoscope of grass-green, paint-white, and dirt of a football field. I miss the band uniform blue.

But I live for Cerulean sky.

And also the cobalt flame at the base of the fiercest bonfire, and the surrounding chorus of rainbow laughter.

I admire the lavender four-o-clocks that border neighborhood gardens.

My best coffee is a deep khaki, the same shade as my favorite faux leather journal.

But I really love yellow birds.

And the chameleon skies in Autumn.

And green. I love the color green.
