COLOR POEM
AS A BLACK WOMAN
color means everything to everyone else,
Black is always associated with bad,
Black cats…… bad luck
Black attire….funeral
Black night …fear arises
Black women…. Aggressive,
What an unfair set of assumptions based on a color that one CANT change.
Although we can change the perspective.
People always say they don't see color, yet they have their favorite color scattered around their house.
They see color but don't want to acknowledge traumas
I see color, I see variation, I see association.
What color am I, You wonder!?
I am strong and bright like Magenta
I am Beautiful and Elegant like onyx
I am multifaceted like the rainbow flag
I am the rainbow flag… array of different colors but so bright you cant avoid it.
Neither can i avoid the inability to view energy and notice paleness arise and life drain away.
Much life has drained away during this pandemic
With a pool of red blood or purple lungs.
The clear tears that fell down the nations face.
Was the blackness of there skin enough cause to send ‘em to the gates of heaven without remorse.
Or was it the lack of care and immediate resources, that have left a country's face to be divided and covered in a blue mask .
Color is a unspoken, multi-defined, pre-stereotyped version of perception.
